Packaging
Analysis

For food producing companies , packaging is an important process that allows the products to be transported, stored and presented to the consumers on the shelves under appropriate conditions, protecting the foodstuffs from some contaminants, in short, providing hygiene and safety conditions for food. In this respect, packaging is very important, especially in the food industry. The main function of the packaging is to protect the qualities and quality of the foodstuffs in it. Besides, packagingmaterials and techniques are also important in terms of arousing a desire to buy in consumers. Today, packaging is no longer a simple packaging business. However, focusing on only one of the two functions mentioned, ie concentrating only on preserving food or attracting attention with packaging, is a serious cause of failure.

No matter how high quality a product is produced, if a quality packaging is not made, for example, the risk of migration from packaging materials is ignored. But a packaging material that is only attractive is not likely to affect the quality of the product. In this respect, businesses that take their business seriously attach importance to packaging analysis. According to experts in this field, packaging is an important marketing tool and is as important as the product inside. The quality of a package indicates its ability to protect the product inside.

The following communiqué issued by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock explains the rules to be followed in the production, processing and distribution processes of plastic materials that come into contact with food, or that may or are likely to come into contact with food: Turkish Food Codex Plastics in Contact with Food and Communiqué on Materials (Communiqué no: 2013/34). This communiqué covers materials made entirely of plastics, multilayer plastic materials bonded or joined together, printed or coated materials, plastic materials used in closures and closures, and plastic layers in multilayer materials.

Packaging materials carry health risks for humans. Therefore, the materials used in packaging production have to meet many requirements in accordance with their usage and purpose. Packaging analysis is therefore important. With these tests and analyzes, companies prevent both health risks for consumers and losses arising from shipping, loading and storage works. Packaging tests are performed to prove that the packaging materials are suitable and provide the expected protection.

The main packaging analyzes performed in our laboratories are:

  • Endurance tests

  • Physical and mechanical tests

  • Print quality tests

  • Weathering tests

  • Migration tests

  • Some chemical tests
